End of lecture plasma barbecue
This year's SFB-TR 87 plasma barbecue for the undergraduate students has been held last Thursday, July 21, 2016. With good weather this was a good opportunity for them to talk to the staff of the chairs AEPT and TET. For the first time, the barbecue had been held on one of the still very new permanent barbecue areas of the Ruhr-Universität behind the Hörsaalzentrum Ost. For all participants it was a successful event.

Plasma research involved in BMBF Carbon2Chem project
On June 27, 2016, the kick-off event of the BMBF project Carbon2Chem had been held in the Landschaftspark Duisburg. Federal Minister Prof. Wanka and NRW Research Minister S. Schulze emphasized the importance of the project for the energy transition and for Germany as a business and research location. In the Carbon2Chem project, metallurgical gases from steel production are to be converted into valuable chemical products with the addition of hydrogen in a catalytic process. The hydrogen required for this is produced by electrolysis using renewable energies. Plasma research at the RUB is involved in this project with the groups around Prof. Muhler, Prof. Awakowicz and Prof. von Keudell exploring the possibilities of plasma catalysis. The project is funded by the BMBF with a total of 60 million Euros over 4 years and includes 17 partners from industry, Max Planck Society, Fraunhofer Society and universities.

18TH WORKSHOP ON THE EXPLORATION OF LOW TEMPERATURE PLASMA PHYSICS
The WELTPP-18 was held at the old convent Rolduc in Kerkrade December 3rd/4th, 2015.
The aim of this workshop is to create a forum for young low temperature plasma scientists, that is graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, to meet, learn from each other, exchange knowledge, present results and establish new contacts.
The emphasis is on the presentation of the work of the people new in this field. The scientific program consisted of 17 contributed talks, encompassing the topics fundamental processes, magnetized discharges, surface interactions, plasma chemistry and diagnostics. From our department W. Breilmann, J. Golda and G. Willems were giving talks. Additionally, an invited evening lecture by G.J.M. Hagelaar (LAPLACE) was held and there was ample time for discussions during 2 poster sessions, where B. Biskup, A. Eitrich, K. Grosse, M. Mokhtar Hefny and P. Preissig presented their posters.

SUMMER SCHOOL ON PLASMA CHEMISTRY
From 2 to 4 July 2015, DIFFER hosted 40 students, PhD candidates and post-docs in a summer school on plasma chemistry as part of the 22nd International Symposium on Plasma Chemistry. The summer school programme concentrated on the basics of plasma physics and chemistry and its application. Expert courses and workshops delved into plasma physics, plasma chemistry, plasma sources and applications from thermal to non-equilibrium plasma technology. Prof. Dr. Achim von Keudell and Dr. Volker Schulz-von der Gathen (both from Experimentalphysics II, RUB) gave talks at this school.
